How long do local firearm transfers take? State law mandates a minimum ten business day waiting period for all firearm transfers. This applies to all firearm types, including frames and receivers. The waiting period does not include weekends or federal holidays. Waiting periods may be extended if the customer's background check is delayed by the Washington State Patrol Firearms Division. Possession of a Washington CPL does not waive the ten day waiting period requirement.
How much does the state background check cost? The state background fee is currently $18 per transaction, which may include multiple firearms if purchased at the same time. This fee is collected from the customer and paid to the Washington State Patrol Firearm Division. This fee is collected up front and is non-refundable, even if the customer fails the background check.
What are your business hours? We are open by appointment only for local customers. Walk-ins not accepted. Missed appointments will not be re-scheduled without prior notice.
Where can I complete the state required firearm safety training? Sporting Systems offers free online safety training that is good for five years.
Can I buy an AR-15 in Washington? No. HB 1240 prohibits the sale or transfer of "Assault Weapons" as defined by law. Please see the link below for a comprehensive list of banned firearms and features.
What are your shipping costs? Handguns ship for a flat fee of $25. Long gun, ammunition, and accessory shipping is calculated based on size, weight, and destination. All firearms must ship to a licensed FFL.
Can I fill out the state background check form online? Yes! Please see the link below for the background form. The completed form will generate an 8-digit buyer code that we will need from you when arriving for your appointment. Your home address on the form must match the address on your government-issued ID.
Can you do private transfers? We do private transfers by request for $68, which includes the $18 state background check fee. Private transfers must be approved in advance, or the shipment will not be accepted from the carrier. Please ask about our veteran / first responder discount for this service.
